CALLING ALL LGBTQIA2S+ YOUTH!
Stonewall Youth is here for YOU
We have weekly drop-ins, as well as regular peer support groups. Keep an eye on our social media or sign up for our newsletter to get information regarding special activities, such as movies, crafts, games, workshops, field trips & more!
Drop-ins are Tuesdays 4-7pm and Wednesdays 4pm-7pm.
Important small print: Unless otherwise mentioned, all of our activities are for queer youth ages 12-21. BTW, we use “queer” and “LGBTQIA2S+” as shorthand to express the many gender identities and sexual orientations of the youth we serve, which includes lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, gender non-conforming, genderqueer, pansexual, and more! We also welcome youth who are questioning/exploring their gender identity and/or sexual orientation.
So, what are “drop-ins?”
LGBTQ2S+ youth ages 12-21 can join us any time during drop-ins on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 4-7pm. You don’t have to contact us before stopping by the first time. Just show up! (But feel free to contact us if you want!)
Drop-ins are a confidential youth-only space. In part, this means that non-youth such as parents and guardians aren’t allowed to enter the space during drop-ins. They can drop off or pick up youth at our front or back door and check-in very briefly with staff. (Staff are extremely busy during drop-ins and don’t have much time to chat with non-youth.) For family members, teachers, therapists and others who want to learn more about Stonewall Youth and meet our staff, we have almost-monthly all-ages events such as community dinners where we can all hang out together.
Participants lead a lot of activities at drop-ins, and if you’re inspired to do so, you’re welcome to lead a discussion, art project, or other activity! Drop-ins are sometimes fairly unstructured to give youth the space to enjoy whatever activities they want that particular time. Youth regularly make art, talk with each other, play games, watch movies, make yummy snacks in our new kitchen or have impromptu fashion shows with the clothes from our free store. Youth are encouraged to request items for particular crafts/games/etc!
Our space has an awesome art corner with a wide array of supplies- you’re welcome to help yourself to them during programming. A lot of our supplies would love to go home with youth who need it- just check with staff.
Stonewall Youth is youth-led. Along with participating in activities, you’re invited to make activities happen! There are lot of opportunities for youth leadership, skill-building, and otherwise helping make Stonewall Youth fabulous. For example, we offer youth paid Fellowships as well as volunteer opportunities!
Stonewall Youth is located at 112 State Ave NE in downtown Olympia, just a block from the Intercity Transit Station. If you come for drop-ins, just knock on the door and we’ll let you in!
Resources + more
Resources: We do our best to make free necessities available to low-income queer and trans youth, including food, gender-affirming items (such as cosmetics, wigs, and binders), clothes, school and creative items (such as notebooks and art supplies), and more. Here’s a request form for youth to use for essential items.
Workshops: During Drop-Ins and other times, youth are welcome to participate in a wide range of workshops and presentations on many different topics: self-defense, relationships, safer sex, oppression, self-care, queer history, street survival skills, job-search skills, racism, and much more. Most are led by youth staff and Fellows and some are led by adult staff and community members.
